The House of Flames began in 2006 as a hobby project in the virtual world of Second Life. Our first live music event was held in the fall of 2006, to a capacity crowd. We went on to host BONFIRE 2007, the first 24-hour live global music event in Second life in June of the following year, and have had the pleasure of working with organizations such as the Electric Sheep Company, HBO, NBC and SONY/BMG. As our reputation in Second Life expanded, we were hired to host the opening festivities for the Canadian Postal Service region. As 2007 drew to a close, the House of Flames had become a tradename under ByteSight, Inc., consultants in multimedia learning.

In 2009, the House of Flames began doing business in the physical world, shooting promotional video for live concert events and education. Recently, we began live event streaming, and may be hired to capture and stream any personal or public event. Our work continues in Second Life as both a business and the dissertation focus of Deborah Wise, who is completing her research in the interplay of real and virtual identity among virtually performing musicians. The House of Flames is based on the House of Flames Island in Second Life, and in Denver, Colorado in the physical world.
